Claude Code official marketplace fails with 'plugins.56.source: Invalid input'

After commit bd04149 changed the official claude-plugins-official marketplace to use a git-subdir source for the Semgrep plugin, older Claude Code clients reject the whole manifest. On v2.1.58–v2.1.66, adding the marketplace fails with "Failed to parse marketplace file ... plugins.56.source: Invalid input". Is there a fix or workaround for the broken marketplace?

Status: open. As of the last comment (2026-03-23), no fix or workaround has been confirmed in the thread. One commenter noted that stable is now v2.1.74 and asked whether the issue can be closed, but nobody confirmed that the new version resolves it.

What happened: Commit bd041495bd2a1f3e21317f37277b2f5aa152b759 changed plugin index 56 (Semgrep) to a source object with "source": "git-subdir", plus "url" and "path". The issue states that older clients (below v2.1.69) previously accepted only a relative path string (for example "./plugins/semgrep") or an object with "source": "url". The unknown git-subdir discriminator makes the entire marketplace manifest fail schema validation, not just the Semgrep entry.

      Reported failures in the thread:

      • v2.1.66 via /plugin: Failed to parse marketplace file ... plugins.56.source: Invalid input
      • v2.1.58 via CLI: claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official.git — clone succeeds, then validation fails with the same error, leaving all plugins unavailable
      • v2.1.62: the issue was reproduced again
      • An existing install with no config changes failed after a restart

No verified fix is provided in the thread. General advice: keep Claude Code updated and try re-adding the marketplace after upgrading, but the thread itself does not confirm that those steps work.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

Opened Claude Code v2.1.66 and added https://github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official via /plugin. The marketplace failed to parse with plugins.56.source: Invalid input.

What @451008604 tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

On v2.1.58, ran claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official.git. The clone completed but validation failed with the same schema error, making all plugins unavailable.

What @holey-unicorn-horologist tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

An existing install with no configuration changes started failing after restarting the machine; the same marketplace validation error appeared and Claude's own plugins stopped loading.

What @451008604 tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

Reported that Claude Code v2.1.62 still exhibits the same marketplace validation failure.
