koog + LM Studio: listing models fails with "Field 'created' is required for OpenAIModel"

I'm using koog with LM Studio as a local model server, and listing available models fails with Field 'created' is required for type with serial name 'ai.koog.prompt.executor.clients.openai.models.OpenAIModel'. Is LM Studio supported by koog, and is there a way to use it today?

LM Studio support in koog is still an open feature request (no maintainer fix in the thread as of Nov 2025). The concrete blocker is model listing: koog deserializes GET /v1/models responses into ai.koog.prompt.executor.clients.openai.models.OpenAIModel, which requires a created field, and LM Studio omits it — each entry only returns id, object, and owned_by. That triggers Field 'created' is required for type with serial name 'ai.koog.prompt.executor.clients.openai.models.OpenAIModel'.

For actually using koog with LM Studio today, a community member shared an example repository: https://github.com/grayfallstown/koog-with-lmstudio-and-local-models (opens external site). It demonstrates getting koog working with LM Studio using the calculator example and the Phi-4-Mini-Instruct model; the author says they "really" recommend using a larger model.

Setup context from the issue: LM Studio exposes an OpenAI-compatible endpoint at http://localhost:1234/v1 with api_key="not-needed", and the standard usage is client = OpenAI(base_url="http://localhost:1234/v1", api_key="not-needed"). So the missing piece is koog's deserialization of the models list, not the connection itself. Until koog's schema is relaxed or LM Studio adds the created field, expect listing models to fail even though the endpoint itself is standard OpenAI-compatible.

What @grayfallstown tried on GitHub (Worked)

Shared a public example repo showing how to get koog working with LM Studio using the calculator example, with the Phi-4-Mini-Instruct model, and recommended using a larger model.

What @HaukeRa tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

Tried listing available models in koog against LM Studio; it fails with Field 'created' is required for type with serial name 'ai.koog.prompt.executor.clients.openai.models.OpenAIModel' because LM Studio's GET /v1/models response omits the created field.
