MCP server list stuck on 'Generating tools list...' in Roo Code/Cline but tools still work

DesktopCommanderMCP shows 'Generating tools list...' indefinitely in the MCP server list in Roo Code, and another user sees the same in Cline on VS Code. The MCP server itself still works: its tool list appears in the system prompt. Is this a DesktopCommanderMCP bug or a client UI display issue? No tool or client versions were given in the thread.

This issue is still open, but a DesktopCommanderMCP maintainer explained it as a cosmetic host/client UI issue rather than a DesktopCommander server bug. The key signal in the thread is that the server itself works: in Roo Code the MCP server list stays stuck on 'Generating tools list...' even though the server works and its tool list appears in the system prompt. Another user reported the same stuck status in Cline on VS Code while the server worked in Roo Code.

No code fix or configuration workaround has been posted in the thread. The maintainer asked anyone still reproducing this on current versions to comment with the client name and version (Roo, Cline, etc.), the DesktopCommanderMCP version, whether the tools are actually usable despite the stuck status, and screenshots or logs. If no fresh reproduction appears, the plan is to close the issue as a cosmetic host/client bug.

As general advice: when an MCP server list appears stuck, verify the server independently—for example, invoke one of its tools or check the client logs for the MCP server's output. If the tools respond, the stuck status text is likely just a client UI display problem.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Worked)

In Roo Code, the MCP server list was stuck on 'Generating tools list...' but the server worked and the tool list was populated in the system prompt.

What @Beaulewis1977 tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

Reported the same stuck 'Generating tools list...' status in Cline on VS Code, while the server worked in Roo Code; no details on whether Cline tools were usable.
