    Claude Code 'plugin marketplace add' fails: Failed to clone marketplace repository

    When running claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills with Claude Code 2.0.21 on Linux (also reproduced on 2.0.22 on macOS M1), the command fails with Error: Failed to clone marketplace repository: Cloning into '/home/<username>/.claude/plugins... even though network connectivity is fine and a manual git clone succeeds. How can I install the anthropics/skills marketplace when the CLI's internal clone fails?

      Still open as of the last comment (2025-10-21); no fix was posted in the thread. The exact cause was not confirmed, though one commenter suspected a git clone permission error inside the CLI.

      The workaround reported by the issue author and confirmed by a commenter is to clone the repository manually into the expected directory, then re-run the CLI command:

      cd ~/.claude/plugins/marketplaces/
git clone https://github.com/anthropics/skills.git anthropics-skills
claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills

      The manual clone succeeds, and the subsequent claude plugin marketplace add registers the marketplace correctly. This was confirmed on Linux with Claude Code 2.0.21 and Git 2.25.1, and on macOS M1 Air with Claude Code 2.0.22 and zsh.

      What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

      Ran claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills directly on Claude Code 2.0.21 (Linux, Git 2.25.1). It failed with Error: Failed to clone marketplace repository: Cloning into '/home/<username>/.claude/plugins>.

      What @freakynit tried on GitHub (Worked)

      Confirmed on macOS M1 Air (Claude Code 2.0.22, zsh) that the manual-clone workaround from the issue works: clone into ~/.claude/plugins/marketplaces/ as anthropics-skills, then re-run claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills.

      Suggested the same manual-clone sequence, attributing the failure to a git clone permission error.
