Is anthropics/skills a public skills directory or just reference examples?

The anthropics/skills GitHub repository contains example Claude document skills, and an October 2025 issue asked whether Anthropic plans to use it as a public skills directory or only as a reference implementation not meant for external contributions. The question was answered by a maintainer in the thread.

Status: explained. A collaborator from Anthropic confirmed in the thread that the repo is currently intended primarily as a reference, not as a public skills directory, and that the team is also interested in receiving feedback.

The README, quoted in the discussion, states that the document skills in the repo are point-in-time snapshots that are not actively maintained or updated, that versions of these skills ship pre-included with Claude, and that they are meant as reference examples illustrating how Anthropic approaches developing more complex skills that work with binary file formats and document structures.

That is all the thread states. As general advice: if your goal is to find a maintained catalog of skills to install or contribute to, this repo is not built for that; if your goal is to give feedback on the example skills themselves, the maintainer's comment indicates Anthropic is open to it.

What @klazuka tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

A collaborator stated the repo is intended primarily as a reference and that the team is interested in feedback, but the thread does not say whether this resolved the reporter's question.

What @codekiln tried on GitHub (Partly worked)

Quoted the README disclaimer saying the document skills are point-in-time snapshots, not actively maintained or updated, and ship pre-included with Claude. This provided context but was not the maintainer's answer.
