    Skills API with Opus 4.5 fails: 'Extra inputs are not permitted'

    On February 14, 2026, calls to the Anthropic Skills API using the Opus 4.5 model returned configurations.0.code_execution_20250825.use_web_search_purpose: Extra inputs are not permitted, even though that parameter was not in the request. The same code had worked the day before. Another user saw the same error with the Java SDK using code-execution-2025-08-25 and the skills headers (2025-10-02). Was this a client-side issue, and is there a fix?

      Resolved. A follow-up comment in the thread states the issue is resolved and links the incident at https://status.claude.com/incidents/49s6mwrdyz8j (opens external site).

      On 2026-02-14, a call to the Skills API with the Opus 4.5 model returned:

      configurations.0.code_execution_20250825.use_web_search_purpose: Extra inputs are not permitted

      The caller was not sending that parameter, and the same code had worked the previous day. A second user reported the identical error from the Java SDK using code-execution-2025-08-25 with the skills headers (2025-10-02) and linked to anthropics/anthropic-sdk-python#1180 as a useful write-up of the problem.

      The thread does not state the root cause, and no client-side fix or workaround is documented. The closing comment points to a status-page incident, so if the error appears again the first step is to check https://status.claude.com (opens external site) for an active incident before changing your request or SDK version. General advice: errors that appear suddenly, affect multiple SDKs, and resolve on their own are often service-side, so check the status page before refactoring working code.

      What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
