Status: still open as of the last comment on 2025-09-19; no release or merged fix is mentioned in the thread.
The reporter's diagnosis: amazon-q-developer-cli has the MCP data structures for resources (
Resource,ResourceContents,ResourcesListResultinfacilitator_types.rs) but no actual implementation path for them. There is noresources/readhandler, no resource URI resolution, and no client-side method to request resource contents — unlike tools, which work because they have a complete path throughCustomTooland the tool manager. The thread shows that asking
q chatto fetchresource://knowledgebasesdoes not trigger aresources/readrequest. Instead, the CLI calls theQueryKnowledgeBasestool with"knowledge_base_id": "resource://knowledgebases"and"query": "list all available knowledge bases", completing in 0.41s with no resource contents shown. There is no confirmed workaround in the thread. One user (comment 1) reports the same limitation with clojure-mcp resources (a coding-style guide, a project-summary prompt, and REPL instructions), which the model cannot load as context. Another commenter (comment 3) suggested porting the pull request from aws/amazon-q-developer-cli-autocomplete#245 into this repo, but the thread does not confirm whether that happened. General advice: until
resources/readlands, plan to get the data you need through the MCP server's tool calls rather than through resource URIs, and watch the issue for a fix.Did this work for you? What @Noksa tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)
A commenter suggested porting the MCP resources work from the pull request in aws/amazon-q-developer-cli-autocomplete#245 into the amazon-q-developer-cli repo. The thread does not confirm whether the port was created or merged.

A user tried clojure-mcp, which exposes resources such as a coding-style guide, a project-summary prompt, and REPL instructions. The Q Developer CLI could not read those resources, so the model could not use them as context.

After running
q doctorandq restart, the reporter askedq chatto fetch theresource://knowledgebasesresource from the Bedrock KB Retrieval MCP server. The CLI invoked the QueryKnowledgeBases tool withknowledge_base_id: "resource://knowledgebases"instead of reading the resource, and the response showed no resource contents.Source: https://github.com/aws/amazon-q-developer-cli/issues/1462 (opens external site)
