google_workspace_mcp read_email strips HTML hyperlinks — plain text only, any fix?

Using google_workspace_mcp (installed via uvx workspace-mcp, Gmail OAuth 2.0, through an MCP JSON-RPC stdio proxy), read_email on an email with HTML content (e.g., Anthropic's "Download Data" export email) returns only the plain text body. The "Download Data" text appears but the underlying URL is missing. Is there any way to get the HTML body or otherwise recover the links?

The issue is closed as COMPLETED, but the thread names no release or commit that contains the fix. The maintainer acknowledged the bug on 2026-02-19, noting that hyperlink support had recently been added for docs but was missing for Gmail, and said they would "get this in." A later comment (2026-06-10) reported the same behavior and added that large HTML email bodies get truncated, so the fix's availability in a specific version is not confirmed by this thread.

No workaround was posted in the thread. As general advice for immediate URL extraction, bypass the MCP tool and call the Gmail API directly: messages.get with format: "full" returns the raw text/html MIME part, which you can parse for <a href="..."> attributes. That gives you the links regardless of this MCP server's version. If a newer build of workspace-mcp exists, testing it is also worth trying — just note the thread does not confirm which version (if any) includes the fix.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

Reporter searched with google({ action: "search_emails", options: { query: "from:anthropic subject:export", maxResults: 5 } }) and then read the message with read_email. The returned body was plain text: the "Download Data" text was present but the hyperlink URL behind it was stripped.
