    Can git-mcp be self-hosted without a Cloudflare account?

    I'm evaluating git-mcp (idosal/git-mcp) as a Git MCP server, but self-hosting appears to require creating a Cloudflare account. Is there any way to run it locally without Cloudflare? The thread doesn't mention a specific version, client, or OS, and there is no error message — it's a deployment and requirements question.

      Still open as of July 2025, but the maintainer explained the current behavior: self-hosting git-mcp currently requires a Cloudflare account, so there is no Cloudflare-free local mode. The maintainer pointed to the hosted service at gitmcp.io, saying it is always up and free and private, and suggested it as an alternative. One commenter later said they use gitmcp.io as a core tool in their setup, and a July 2025 comment asked whether contributions that remove the Cloudflare requirement would be accepted; no maintainer reply to that question appears in the thread.

      General advice: if your constraint is a fully self-hosted Git MCP server with no third-party account, this tool currently doesn't meet that constraint. Consider other Git MCP servers or watch this issue for future changes. No setup steps, versions, or error messages appear in the thread; it's purely a requirements/architecture question, so there is no config or command fix to apply.

      The reporter asked whether git-mcp can be run locally without creating a Cloudflare account; no local or non-Cloudflare option was identified.

      The maintainer confirmed Cloudflare is the only current self-host path and suggested the hosted gitmcp.io service, saying it is always up, free, and private.

      A commenter said gitmcp.io is a core tool in their box, indicating they use it in practice; the thread reports no problems with it beyond that.
