ida-pro-mcp: AttributeError: ida_kernwin has no attribute parse_tagged_line_sections
When using the ida-pro-mcp plugin in IDA Pro 9.0.241217 on Windows (Python 3.11.0), the
disassemble_functiontool fails withAttributeError: module 'ida_kernwin' has no attribute 'parse_tagged_line_sections', wrapped in a JSON-RPC -32603 internal error. Why does this happen and what is the fix?Originally asked on GitHub: https://github.com/mrexodia/ida-pro-mcp/issues/113

The root cause is an IDA version mismatch:
parse_tagged_line_sectionswas added in IDA Pro 9.1, so the plugin'sdisassemble_functiontool fails on IDA 9.0. A contributor identified this and linked the Hex-Rays 9.1 release notes; the maintainer said it was "very likely a real issue" and kept the ticket open to investigate. The issue is now closed (COMPLETED).To fix it, upgrade to IDA Pro 9.1 or newer, where the API exists. The traceback shows the failure happens in
mcp-plugin.pyline 931 insidedisassemble_function, so until you upgrade, that tool cannot be used. General advice: while on IDA 9.0, avoid callingdisassemble_functionfrom the plugin. A comment also suggested that unexpected errors can sometimes be resolved by retrying, but nobody in the thread reported actually retrying or the result, and the maintainer's reply suggests the failure is real rather than transient.Did this work for you? What @XUCharles tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
Reproduced the exact same AttributeError on IDA Pro 9.0.241217 with Python 3.11.0, confirming the failure is not specific to the original reporter's installation.

A comment suggested that unexpected errors can be solved by retrying, but no one in the thread reported trying this, so the suggestion's effectiveness is unknown.
