Can browser-use be used as an MCP server?
Can browser-use be used as an MCP server? The official browser-use repo closed the feature request (March 2025) as a duplicate without implementing it. Are there working community MCP servers, or a similar browser MCP service that works in clients like Cursor, Cline, or Cherry Studio?

Browser-use does not ship an official MCP server: this feature request was closed as a duplicate, so the core repo will not implement it. The thread points to community alternatives instead: https://github.com/co-browser/browser-use-mcp-server (opens external site) and https://github.com/Linzo99/browser-use-mcp-client (opens external site) (the second was added by a commenter with a contributor role). No installation or configuration steps for either project appear in the thread, so check their READMEs.
The only concrete working setup in the thread is the Playwright MCP server, which one user installed globally with
npm -g install playwright-mcp-serverand used in Cursor, Cline, or Cherry Studio with this JSON config (the path shown is from Windows):json{ "playwright": { "command": "node", "args": [ "C:\\Users\\Adun\\AppData\\Roaming\\npm\\node_modules\\@executeautomation\\playwright-mcp-server\\dist\\index.js" ], "autoApprove": [ "playwright_click", "playwright_hover" ] } }The user found Playwright MCP easier to set up as an MCP service than browser-use, though less powerful.
General advice, not from the thread: the
npmpath in the config is machine-specific — replace it with the output ofnpm root -gon your system. Also, autoApprovelets the model run those browser actions without asking for confirmation, so only auto-approve the actions you actually need.Did this work for you? What @maceip tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)
A commenter linked https://github.com/co-browser/browser-use-mcp-server (opens external site) as an existing MCP server for browser-use. No install or config steps were given in the thread.

A user installed the Playwright MCP server globally with
npm -g install playwright-mcp-serverand shared the JSON config above for Cursor, Cline, or Cherry Studio, noting it worked but was less powerful than browser-use.Source: https://github.com/browser-use/browser-use/issues/931#issuecomment-2817527590 (opens external site)
