How to use Figma-Context-MCP with VS Code and GitHub Copilot?

  Status: explained by the maintainer (thread closed). As of late February 2025, GitHub Copilot did not yet support MCP servers, so Figma-Context-MCP could not be connected through Copilot in VS Code at that time. The maintainer pointed to the VS Code blog post from 2025-02-24 about Copilot Agent Mode and said the Copilot team was actively working on MCP support.

  If you want a VS Code option right away, one commenter recommended installing the Cline extension and using it with your own API key; they said they use Cline frequently and it works well. The thread does not describe how to configure Figma-Context-MCP inside Cline, and the reporter did not confirm trying it.

  As general advice, MCP server support in VS Code depends on which AI assistant extension you use, not on VS Code itself. Check the current GitHub Copilot MCP documentation before setting this up, because Copilot may have added MCP support after this thread was closed.

  What @mr-ryan-james tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

  A commenter suggested installing the Cline extension for VS Code as an alternative, saying they use Cline frequently and that it works well, while noting you pay your own API usage. They did not describe Figma-Context-MCP configuration, and the reporter did not confirm trying it.
