Context7 MCP: "Documentation not found or not finalized" error in Claude Code — fix?
Context7 MCP in Claude Code (version 1.0.11) returns "Documentation not found or not finalized for this library" on every docs call, even when
resolve-library-idreturns a library ID like/jetbrains/lets-plot. The server is started withnpx -y @upstash/context7-mcpfrom a local.mcp.jsonwithDEFAULT_MINIMUM_TOKENSset. The error suggests usingresolve-library-id, but that tool already works. What fixes the docs retrieval failure?Originally asked on GitHub: https://github.com/upstash/context7/issues/246

Status: the issue was closed as completed; maintainers could not reproduce it, but one commenter reported a working fix: launch the Context7 MCP server with
@latestplus--node-options=--experimental-fetch. The thread does not specify exactly where the flag belongs; placing it in theargsarray of your MCP server config (as in the example below) is the usual npx pattern, but that placement is general advice.Example based on the Claude Code 1.0.11 config that failed:
json{ "mcpServers": { "context7": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "@upstash/context7-mcp@latest", "--node-options=--experimental-fetch" ], "env": { "DEFAULT_MINIMUM_TOKENS": "6000" } } } }The same "Documentation not found or not finalized" error appeared with several different library IDs (
/starrocks/starrocks,/openai/openai-python, and/jetbrains/lets-plotafterresolve-library-idreturned it) and when connecting throughhttps://mcp.context7.com/ssein Anthropic Claude. So the error message's hint to resolve the library ID again was not the fix for these users. A maintainer also suggested checking the troubleshooting section of the README if the problem persists.Did this work for you? What @combiz tried on GitHub (Worked)
A commenter reported that combining
--node-options=--experimental-fetchwith the@latestversion tag in the npx command fixed the error.Source: https://github.com/upstash/context7/issues/246#issuecomment-2944231517 (opens external site)
