Does github-mcp-server support GitHub Projects (Projects v2)?
Does github/github-mcp-server support GitHub Projects (Projects v2)? I want the AI to query project structure and add or move issues on a project board, but the server seems to only cover repositories and issues. Is there a workaround or an alternative server?

The official github/github-mcp-server does not support GitHub Projects (Projects v2). This issue was closed as a duplicate of issue #44, so no fix or implementation landed here. The thread only contains a contributor explanation and a community workaround.
A contributor noted that the Classic Projects API was deprecated (GitHub sunset notice, May 2024), so a GraphQL API approach is needed. They pointed to go-github's README, which recommends the
shurcooL/githubv4library for GraphQL API v4 work. The thread does not confirm whether the maintainers plan to implement Projects v2.As a workaround, a community member shared the open-source Arclio/github-projects-mcp server. According to that comment, it can: list and manage Projects v2 for users/orgs, work with project items (issues, PRs, drafts), create issues and add them to projects, and update project item fields (for example, moving a ticket across a board). This is a third-party server, not an official GitHub tool, and the thread does not show anyone testing it. General advice: review its source and the token permissions it requests before configuring it. If you need Projects v2 access today, you can also call the GitHub GraphQL API directly, though that was not tested in this thread.

Shared the third-party open-source Arclio/github-projects-mcp server as a workaround to list/manage Projects v2, create issues, add them to projects, and update project item fields. No one in the thread confirmed testing it.
