n8n: Log Streaming Event Destinations Decrypt Generic-Auth Credentials Without Ownership Check
- Product
- n8n
- CVE
- CVE-2026-86993
- Affected
- n8n < 1.123.76, 2.0.0 to 2.37.7, and 2.38.0 to 2.38.2
- Fixed in
- 1.123.76
Last verified against sources: October 26, 2026
Am I affected?
n8n: affected n8n < 1.123.76, 2.0.0 to 2.37.7, and 2.38.0 to 2.38.2. Fixed in 1.123.76.
- Check your version: run
npm ls n8n. Versions < 1.123.76 of n8n are affected. [1]
What to do now
- Upgrade to the fixed version: run
npm install n8n@1.123.76(first patched version 1.123.76). [1] - Upgrade to n8n 1.123.76, 2.37.7, or 2.38.2 or later. [1]
- Restrict n8n instance access to fully trusted users only. [1]
- Audit and revoke any custom global roles that carry Log Streaming scopes (
eventBusDestination:create, eventBusDestination:test, etc.), limiting those scopes to fully trusted users only. [1] - Review existing Log Streaming event destinations for unexpected webhook URLs and remove any that are not recognized, then rotate any credentials that may have been referenced. [1]
General practice, not from the source: if the affected software could read tokens or credentials, rotate them after upgrading; pin versions and review changes before updating tools your agents run.
What happened
- A log streaming event destination may reference a generic HTTP credential, and the destination resolved and decrypted whichever credential it named without checking that the caller had access to it. [1]
Impact
- A user holding a custom global role scoped to Log Streaming operations could therefore name a credential belonging to another project and have its decrypted secret sent to an endpoint they controlled. [1]
