Does server-github support GitHub Enterprise, and where is development happening?

I need to connect the modelcontextprotocol server-github MCP server to a GitHub Enterprise instance at work, ideally with a read-only mode. As of March 2025, was GitHub Enterprise support added, and is there a working configuration? The GitHub issue mentions PR #1045 but contains no config details or error message.

The thread does not confirm a fix or a working configuration. The issue was closed as completed, but the only evidence is a comment saying PR #1045 "should solve it" and another saying the PR was ready and waiting for review; no one in the thread confirmed it was merged. Later, a maintainer posted a deprecation notice: development for server-github has moved to the github/github-mcp-server repository, and pull requests to server-github in modelcontextprotocol/servers are no longer being merged.

The read-only option is also unconfirmed. An unidentified commenter said they would create a separate ticket for it, and the thread does not state whether PR #1045 covers read-only mode.

Practical takeaway: do not rely on the old server-github package for GitHub Enterprise work. Check github/github-mcp-server's documentation, issues, and releases for GitHub Enterprise support and read-only options; this is a separate repository from the original one.

What @hexelon tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

A commenter suggested that PR #1045 would add GitHub Enterprise support. Another commenter later said the PR was ready and waiting for a review, without naming the PR number. The thread never confirms a merge.
