Why is query-data-source missing from Notion MCP in Claude Code?

I connected Notion's MCP to Claude Code through the Claude Code Connector and wanted a tool to query a todo database by properties like recency, completion, and priority. The v2.0 tool move-page appears, but query-data-source does not. Why is the query tool missing?

Status: explained. The missing tool is not a bug in this repository. The Claude Code Connector connects to Notion's hosted MCP, which has a different tool set than the self-hosted notion-mcp-server.

A maintainer replied to the reporter that the hosted MCP is separate from the locally hosted server in this repo. The reporter confirmed they had been using the hosted MCP and had not noticed the distinction in the docs. The maintainer's suggested fix is to follow the installation instructions in the README to run the self-hosted MCP, which exposes the tools described there.

General advice: before debugging a missing tool, check which MCP you are actually connected to, either the hosted one via a Connector or a locally run server, since the two can expose different tool lists.

For the original goal of filtering a database by recent, uncompleted, and ASAP properties, the thread shows that the normal search tool did not work. One commenter reported that a Claude agent consumed over 50,000 tokens trying to find today's tasks, while a simple Python script using the Notion database query API handled the task easily.

What @janpio tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

Maintainer told the reporter they were using Notion's hosted MCP rather than the self-hosted server from this repo, and advised following the README install instructions for the self-hosted MCP.

What @osyrisrblx tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

The reporter tried the normal search tool to find todos that are recent, uncompleted, and ASAP priority, but it could not filter by those properties.

What @shellshock1953 tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

A commenter had a Claude agent query today's tasks in a large TODO database using Notion API documentation as instructions; it consumed over 50,000 tokens and still struggled to find the tasks.

What @seanadkinson tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

A commenter checked the Claude Code Connector tool list, saw move-page from v2.0, but found no query-data-source tool.
