Does Context7 support GitLab repositories now, and where do I add one?

I use the Context7 MCP server (upstash/context7) and want to index documentation hosted in GitLab repositories rather than GitHub. I could not find a way to add GitLab sources and wanted to know whether support exists yet.

Status: fixed. A contributor completed GitLab implementation on Oct 2, 2025, and a maintainer confirmed on Oct 8, 2025 that GitLab repos can now be added through https://context7.com/add-library (opens external site). The maintainer asked users to report any issues.

The original request was opened on May 1, 2025, asking for GitLab support alongside GitHub, with GitLab's own documentation repository cited as an example. Later commenters described the same need: company tools hosted on GitLab, public technical documentation, and regulated environments without access to GitHub. Before the feature existed, one commenter only discovered the limitation while trying to add a company tool during a demo.

The thread does not describe CLI flags, config file changes, or token setup for GitLab repos, so follow the steps on the add-library page for the current process. If you plan to index private or self-hosted GitLab content, confirm what access the add-library flow requires before sharing sensitive documentation.

What @farnoy tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

Opened a feature request asking for GitLab support alongside GitHub and linked GitLab's own documentation repository as an example of the content they wanted indexed.
