Is there an official OpenSearch MCP server?
I want to use an OpenSearch MCP server with my MCP client. There is a feature request to add one to the modelcontextprotocol/servers repository. Was it accepted, and is there an official server to use instead?

This feature request was closed as NOT_PLANNED. Maintainers said the repo is limited to a smaller set of servers for maintenance overhead reasons and will not add OpenSearch there. An official OpenSearch MCP server now exists in the opensearch-project organization: the Python repository opensearch-mcp-server-py. The maintainer described it as an MCP server that enables AI agents to perform search and analytics use cases on data stored in OpenSearch. They also said a community server implementation can be added to the Readme by opening a PR with a link. In the discussion, the proposer planned to support OpenSearch REST APIs such as search, said the existing tools/skills repository would remain, and indicated the MCP server would be accessible through the OpenSearch service. If you need a supported integration, use the official opensearch-mcp-server-py instead of the general modelcontextprotocol/servers collection. General advice: give the agent OpenSearch credentials scoped only to the search and analytics operations you intend to expose, since the server becomes a bridge between the client and your cluster.

The issue proposed adding a new OpenSearch MCP server to the modelcontextprotocol/servers repository with support for OpenSearch REST APIs, authentication, error handling, and version compatibility.

A maintainer said the repository is intentionally limited for maintenance reasons and pointed to the official opensearch-mcp-server-py in the opensearch-project organization, or suggested opening a PR to add a community server link to the Readme.
