    Why does Remote Control not work in the Claude Desktop app Claude Code tab?

    Claude Code sessions started in the Claude Desktop app do not appear on the Claude mobile app or claude.ai/code, while CLI sessions do. One user saw an 'Error initializing' message when running /remote control in the Desktop Claude Code tab, while others said it worked for them.

      Status: the thread does not record a maintainer fix or explanation. Later comments report that in a recent Claude Desktop version, /remote control appears in the Claude Code tab. Two commenters said it works out of the box for them, and one commenter got 'Error initializing' and asked whether it was a known bug. Earlier, a reporter found that Desktop-initiated sessions were not registered with the Remote Control API even with 'Enable Remote Control for all sessions' set to true via /config, while CLI sessions registered automatically.

      What the thread shows:

      • In the Claude Code tab of the Desktop app, run /remote control.
      • If it starts for you, the thread confirms it works for those users, with no extra setup described.
      • If you see 'Error initializing', the thread gives no fix. The user who hit it asked whether it was a known bug or tied to a specific setup, and no answer was posted.
      • The one thread that tested the setting found that the CLI path works: running claude in a terminal registered the session, which then appeared on the phone under Idle.

      The thread does not say which Desktop version fixed or changed behavior, so check the current status in your app before relying on it for long-running tasks.

      What @lexsisney tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

      Reporter set 'Enable Remote Control for all sessions' to true via /config in Claude Desktop, then checked bridge-state.json and the mobile session lists. Desktop-initiated sessions were not registered, while CLI sessions registered automatically. Typing /remote-control in Desktop returned 'Unknown skill' in that version.

      What @stevek77 tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

      Commenter opened the Claude Code tab in the latest Desktop version, where /remote control was visible, and tried to activate it. It returned 'Error initializing' and the feature did not start.

      Commenter confirmed that it works perfectly for them in the Desktop app, without giving setup details.
