Can mongodb-mcp-server be hosted as a remote MCP server over HTTP?

I'd like to know whether mongodb-mcp-server can be hosted as a remote MCP server so non-technical users can query our MongoDB Atlas data through claude.ai custom integrations. The feature request thread (May 2025) asks whether the server supports HTTP transport for remote hosting and how authentication should work. No error or specific version is involved — this is about available capability.

**Status: fixed.** In August 2025, a maintainer confirmed that HTTP transport support was added, so mongodb-mcp-server can now be run locally or hosted remotely over HTTP. The issue was closed as completed.

The setup is documented in the project README under **Option 6: Running as an HTTP server**. Note that the thread only confirms the server can be hosted remotely over HTTP — it does not confirm that Anthropic's MCP Connector or claude.ai custom integrations work with it end to end.

Authentication is deliberately not part of the server. The maintainers said they did not implement OIDC auth between the agent and the MCP server; they expect production-grade deployments to bring their own authentication, for example a reverse proxy such as oauth2-proxy, and to follow the best practices in the README. One user in the thread also asked about OAuth 2.0 support, but no such implementation was announced.

Security note: because authentication is not built into the server, put your own auth (for example, a reverse proxy) in front of any production deployment, per the maintainers' guidance in the README.
