Why are workspace packages missing from BrowserMCP and does its extension send telemetry?
In the BrowserMCP public repo (MCP server plus Chrome extension), dependencies like @r2r/messaging and @repo/* are declared as workspace:* but the packages are not in the codebase. The Chrome extension background also references PostHog, Amplitude, Sentry, and rrweb. Are these packages private/internal, and are tool calls sent to telemetry? I want to understand this before using a browser-control tool that can access cookies, localStorage, and extensions.

Status: open — the maintainer answered both questions in this thread; no code fix or release is mentioned.
The missing workspace packages (@r2r/messaging, @repo/config, @repo/messaging, @repo/types, @repo/utils) come from the private monorepo where this MCP server is developed. That monorepo also contains code for the maintainer's other browser extensions (Browserflow, EasyScraper, BrowserBot), which is why it isn't open-sourced. The maintainer hasn't decided whether to extract the MCP server into its own repo; for now they plan to periodically sync changes into this public repo.
On telemetry: the Chrome extension's background code references PostHog, Amplitude, Sentry, and rrweb. The maintainer clarified that the extension uses an anonymous device ID and sends an analytics event each time a tool call is used, and that zero personalized or identifying information is sent. The purpose is to gauge how many active users the extension has, similar to website visitor counting. They suggest inspecting the network traffic to verify this. One commenter said the built-in tracking is a deal-breaker even if anonymous.
General advice: since this MCP server controls a browser and can access cookies, localStorage, and extensions, inspect the network traffic yourself before pointing it at a sensitive browser profile.
Did this work for you? What @rawzone tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
Looked for documentation about the extension's telemetry anywhere outside this issue and could not find any.

Did this work for you? What @bstaats tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
Wanted to contribute a feature to switch or close the current tab, but said the project doesn't allow others to contribute, which they called a dead end.
