How do I use awesome-copilot without an MCP server?
My organization has security concerns about MCP and will not allow us to install or create MCP servers, so I cannot use the awesome-copilot MCP server in GitHub Copilot Chat on VS Code. Is there a way to use awesome-copilot without the MCP server, and are there guides for it?

This issue is resolved: a contributor explains that the MCP server is not required to use awesome-copilot content in GitHub Copilot Chat. The issue is closed as completed.
Steps described in the thread:
- Create these folders in your repository:
.github/chatmodes,.github/instructions,.github/prompts. - Copy files from the awesome-copilot repo into those folders:
janitor.chatmode.mdgoes into.github/chatmodesand becomes an option in the chat mode picker. If the option doesn't show up, reload VS Code.- Instruction files go into
.github/instructions. Copilot may auto-select some instructions it thinks are relevant, which can affect the chat context, so the contributor recommends not adding too many. You can also add instructions manually via the Add Context button in the chat session. - Prompt files go into
.github/promptsand appear when you type/in the chat session.
- In VS Code, you can also use the install buttons on the awesome-copilot README for a guided install, or use the "Suggest Awesome GitHub Copilot..." prompts listed in README.prompts.md, which search the repo and install the files.
No tool versions or OS specifics were mentioned in the thread. The workaround relies on repo files and Copilot Chat's native folder conventions.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)
The reporter asked whether awesome-copilot can be used without the MCP server; no workaround was attempted because the org policy blocks MCP entirely.
