Does mcp-searxng support PROXY_URL for proxy configuration?

Does mcp-searxng (ihor-sokoliuk/mcp-searxng) support PROXY_URL? I opened this issue on 2025-08-13 asking about it, and it was closed as completed on 2025-08-23. The issue body contained no details beyond the title, so I want to know whether the current version supports it and how to configure it.

The issue was closed as completed on 2025-08-23, and the maintainer's reply points to version 0.6.0 (the latest at the time) and the project README for details. The thread itself does not explicitly state what changed in 0.6.0, nor how PROXY_URL is configured, so the actionable step is: upgrade mcp-searxng to 0.6.0 or later and read the README for the supported configuration.

No exact config, CLI flag, or environment variable name is given in the thread, so anything beyond upgrading and checking the README is not documented here. One commenter also published a separate PyPI package, mcp-searxng-python, before upgrading to 0.6.0; it is not part of the original project and the thread does not describe how it behaves.

General advice: if your proxy URL includes credentials (for example, http://user:pass@host:port), keep it out of version-controlled config files and logs.

What @ferocknew tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

A commenter created and published a separate Python package, mcp-searxng-python, on PyPI before upgrading to 0.6.0. The thread does not say whether it addressed the PROXY_URL question or how well it worked.
