Can I use npm instead of pnpm to install mcp-chrome? ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:12306
I'm setting up hangwin/mcp-chrome with Claude Desktop and the instructions show pnpm, but I want to use npm. When I run the stdio server through node, logs show: Error: connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:12306. Can npm work, and what should I check for the connection error?

Status: explained — the thread is closed as completed. The maintainer confirmed npm works as an alternative: you only need Node.js 18.19.0 or higher. No other npm-specific settings were mentioned.
The ECONNREFUSED error was not resolved in the thread. One user ran the stdio bridge directly from Claude Desktop with this config:
json"chrome-mcp-stdio": { "command": "node", "args": [ "C:\\Program Files\\nodejs\\node_modules\\mcp-chrome-bridge\\dist\\mcp\\mcp-server-stdio.js" ] }The maintainer's only diagnostic suggestion was to verify that the native server started successfully and, if not, click the Connect button in the Chrome extension to check the connection. There is no follow-up in the thread confirming whether that fixed the error, so treat it as the next step rather than a verified fix.
General advice if you still hit this error: double-check the actual path to
mcp-server-stdio.json your machine, and ensure no other process is using port 12306.Did this work for you? What @yiminhale tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
Configured Claude Desktop with "command": "node" and args pointing to C:\Program Files\nodejs\node_modules\mcp-chrome-bridge\dist\mcp\mcp-server-stdio.js. Logs showed "Error: connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:12306".
