Does obra/superpowers work in Trae IDE? Workarounds and blockers
I'm using Trae IDE (ByteDance's AI-native editor, built on the VS Code core) and want the superpowers skill system (obra/superpowers, dev branch v6.3.0) to work in it. The feature request for Trae support is still open and the maintainer confirmed it is unimplemented. Is there a usable workaround today, and what exactly is blocking an official port?

Still open as of September 2026: superpowers v6.3.0 (dev branch) has no official Trae IDE integration, and the maintainer confirmed the feature remains unimplemented. The only practical path today is the community fork trae-superpowers (opens external site), which activates the skills through Trae User Rules. The maintainer called it "a useful personal workaround rather than an upstream path," because a shipped port is not allowed to rely on a user-config edit — so it may work for personal use, but it is not the official route.
The two standing PRs are not mergeable as-is. Both #513 and #947 target
maininstead ofdev; #513 has conflicts and still symlinks each skill individually (the update problem raised in review); and neither includes the clean-session transcript that CLAUDE.md's New Harness Support section requires. To get official support, a PR needs to targetdevand show thebrainstormingskill auto-triggering on "Let's make a react todo list" in a clean Trae session. The issue author's feasibility analysis suggests Trae's VS Code base may make adaptation easier, but that is speculation in the request, not a confirmed finding.General advice: the fork is third-party code and its User Rules approach edits your Trae user configuration, so review what it installs before using it.

Try the community fork trae-superpowers (github.com/luyangkk/trae-superpowers), which activates the skills through Trae User Rules. The maintainer described it as a useful personal workaround rather than an upstream path, but no one in the thread confirmed actually running it.

Did this work for you? What @obra tried on GitHub (Didn't work)
PR #513: targets main instead of dev, has conflicts, and still symlinks each skill individually, which review flagged as an update problem. It also lacks the clean-session transcript required by CLAUDE.md's New Harness Support section.

PR #947: targets main instead of dev and lacks the clean-session transcript required by CLAUDE.md's New Harness Support section, so it is not mergeable either.
