GitLab MCP token expired: mcp-remote reconnect fails with PKCE code_verifier required

After my GitLab MCP token expires, Claude only reports that 1 MCP server has failed, and reconnecting through mcp-remote does not trigger authentication. My Claude.json uses npx -y mcp-remote https://gitlab.com/api/v4/mcp (opens external site) with --static-oauth-client-metadata {"scope": "mcp"} and --debug, and the debug log shows InvalidRequestError: PKCE code_verifier is required for dynamic OAuth applications. Was this fixed?

Fixed in mcp-remote 0.1.49; the issue was closed as completed after a release bot announced the fix on npm and GitHub. The thread does not explain the root cause or give a config workaround, so the only verified fix from the thread is to update mcp-remote to 0.1.49 or newer and restart the client. The reporter's setup used the Claude.json command npx -y mcp-remote https://gitlab.com/api/v4/mcp (opens external site) with --static-oauth-client-metadata {"scope": "mcp"} and --debug. After the token expired, Claude only reported that one MCP server had failed, reconnect did not trigger authentication, and the mcp-remote debug log ended with InvalidRequestError: PKCE code_verifier is required for dynamic OAuth applications while also showing a token result with hasAccessToken true, hasRefreshToken true, and isExpired false. Another user commented that they were seeing the same issue before the release. No manual workaround was posted in the thread, so if the error persists after upgrading, general advice is to verify the installed version actually matches 0.1.49 or newer and fully restart the Claude session so mcp-remote starts fresh.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

The reporter configured GitLab MCP in Claude.json using npx -y mcp-remote https://gitlab.com/api/v4/mcp (opens external site) with --static-oauth-client-metadata {"scope": "mcp"} and --debug. After the token expired, trying to reconnect did not start authentication and failed with InvalidRequestError: PKCE code_verifier is required for dynamic OAuth applications.
