Claude Code /plugin install Stripe fails: local changes to scripts/sync.js would be overwritten
Installing the official Stripe plugin in Claude Code v2.1.165 on Windows with
/plugin install stripe@claude-plugins-officialfails withFailed to checkout commit ...: Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by checkout: scripts/sync.js. The error still appears after stashing all changes (clean git status) and from a brand-new folder. Is there a fix or workaround?Originally asked on GitHub: https://github.com/stripe/ai/issues/440

Status: still open. No maintainer fix was confirmed in the thread, and the error was not reproduced by the commenter.
Running
/plugin install stripe@claude-plugins-officialin Claude Code v2.1.165 on Windows failed with:Failed to checkout commit ...: Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by checkout: scripts/sync.js Please commit your changes or stash them before you switch branches. AbortingThe reporter got the same error after stashing all changes (so
git statuswas clean) and also when running the install from a brand-new empty folder, so uncommitted local changes are not the cause. One commenter could not reproduce the failure and asked whether the install was run in a new folder or over an existing plugin install. A project contributor suspected something on the machine might be writing into the Stripe plugin directory (for example, Claude patching files to work around a failure) and asked for a diff of the local changes at the moment the error occurs; no diff was provided in the thread. The only alternative route mentioned worked: the reporter installed the Stripe skills with
npx skillsinstead of/plugin installand reported that the skills were installed that way.If you hit this error, the practical option confirmed in the thread is to use
npx skillsfor the Stripe skills. As general advice (not confirmed in the thread), you could also retry the plugin install in an environment where nothing watches or writes the target plugin directory.Did this work for you? What @MJLHThomassen tried on GitHub (Worked)
After the failed plugin installs, the reporter installed the Stripe skills with
npx skillsand stated the skills were installed that way.Source: https://github.com/stripe/ai/issues/440#issuecomment-4632756770 (opens external site)

The reporter stashed all local changes so
git statuswas clean, then retried the plugin install; also tried from a brand-new empty folder. The samescripts/sync.jscheckout error occurred in both cases.Source: https://github.com/stripe/ai/issues/440#issuecomment-4632756770 (opens external site)
