Notion MCP server with GitHub Copilot in VSCode: 'Cannot use in operator to search for type in true' error
Running notion-mcp-server locally with GitHub Copilot in VSCode fails with
Failed to validate tool 590_API-post-database-query: TypeError: Cannot use 'in' operator to search for 'type' in true. What causes this validation error and how can it be fixed?Originally asked on GitHub: https://github.com/makenotion/notion-mcp-server/issues/18

The GitHub issue is still open, but a commenter reported that the validation error is resolved by upgrading both GitHub Copilot and VSCode Insiders to version 1.100.0. No other configuration change was mentioned for that fix.
If you cannot upgrade right away, another commenter suggested a temporary workaround: open the Copilot Chat tools list (the "tools 20 of 33" button), find the tool that is causing the error, and uncheck it until permissions are properly configured. In this thread, the offending tool was
post-database-query. The thread does not say whether disabling the tool fixed the underlying problem permanently, only that it is a quick workaround. The issue remains open at the time of writing, so if the upgrade does not help for your setup, it may be worth adding a comment to the thread.
General advice not from the thread: if you see the same
Cannot use 'in' operatorvalidation error for other MCP tools, disabling the failing tool until you can upgrade your client is a reasonable way to keep the rest of the MCP tools usable.Did this work for you? What @JimChapman-infra tried on GitHub (Worked)
Upgraded both GitHub Copilot and VSCode Insiders to version 1.100.0.
