Notion MCP: "Tool notion-query-data-sources not found" — plan-gated or a bug?

Using the official hosted Notion MCP (https://mcp.notion.com/mcp (opens external site)) through Claude Code, Codex, or the ChatGPT Notion app, calls to notion-query-data-sources fail with "Tool notion-query-data-sources not found" or "MCP error -32602", while search, fetch, create, and update work. In the original report, Claude also got HTTP 400 validation_error: URL type webpage not currently supported for fetch tool when passing a table-view URL to notion-fetch. Is the missing tool a subscription-tier limitation or a server bug, and is there a workaround?

Status: open. No maintainer replied in the thread. The likely explanation, per comment 5 citing Notion's official MCP documentation, is that notion-query-data-sources requires an Enterprise subscription and notion-query-database-view requires Business Plan or higher with Notion AI. The thread does not confirm where that check runs, so treat the plan requirement as the documented cause rather than a proven mechanism.

The plan-based explanation is not a complete story. An Enterprise-plan user (comment 6) still saw the tool missing, and a Business-plan user (comment 10) reported that on June 27, 2026, after previously failing, query_data_sources became available again. So before filing a bug report, verify your workspace's current plan and entitlement.

Workarounds from the thread are limited: notion-search is semantic search capped at 25 results with no structured property filters, and notion-fetch retrieves one page/row at a time by ID. Neither is practical for reading ~500 rows or filtering by checkbox/date/text properties. The original 400 error came from passing a table view URL to notion-fetch, which the tool rejected as a webpage URL; the thread does not confirm a fix for that specific call.

General advice: if your workspace plan includes the tool and it is still missing, contact Notion support, since there is nothing in the thread indicating a client-side MCP config change that exposes it.

What @fate7bardiche tried on GitHub (Worked)

A Business-plan user resumed using the hosted MCP on June 27, 2026, and query_data_sources then became available after previously failing.

What @rickyhonline tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

An Enterprise-plan user tested the same scenario and still saw query_data_sources missing, showing the documented Enterprise requirement alone does not explain every occurrence.

What @JacquesJnr tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

A commenter tried the same workflow in both Codex and ChatGPT and hit the same notion-query-data-sources missing error; they also cited Notion's MCP supported-tools documentation saying the tool requires an Enterprise subscription and notion-query-database-view requires Business Plan or higher with Notion AI.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

The reporter asked Claude to read a table view; Claude invoked notion-fetch on the view URL and got HTTP 400 validation_error: URL type webpage not currently supported for fetch tool. Searching for query-data-source and query-data-sources variants found neither tool.
