    Claude Code does not read AGENTS.md or .agents/skills/: how to make it work?

    Claude Code does not load AGENTS.md or skills stored in .agents/skills/, so teams keeping shared instructions for other tools must maintain duplicate files. On v2.1.100, invoking a skill from .agents/skills/ returns "Unknown skill." Is there a way to share these files with Claude Code today?

      Status: still open. The thread reports no native support for AGENTS.md or .agents/skills/ discovery and no official response from Anthropic.

      These workarounds were reported in the thread:

      Import AGENTS.md from CLAUDE.md. Add this line to the project's CLAUDE.md:

      @AGENTS.md

      A commenter reports this works in current Claude Code. Their caveats: /compact can drop imported content mid-session, and Claude-specific features such as skill auto-triggering and slash commands still need files under .claude/.

      Symlink per skill. A commenter reports that per-skill symlinks from .claude/skills/<name> to .agents/skills/<name> work on v2.1.100, while .agents/skills/ itself is not discovered.

      Symlink the whole folder. Another commenter reports that linking the whole folder works and stays consistent when new skills are added:

      ln -s ../.claude/skills .agents/skills

      On macOS, one commenter suggested linking the other direction, ln -s ~/.agents/skills ~/.claude/skills. They did not confirm the result.

      What @olijboyd tried on GitHub (Worked)

      Added the line @AGENTS.md to CLAUDE.md so the shared AGENTS.md file is imported as Claude Code instructions. The commenter listed caveats around /compact and .claude/ siblings.

      What @jcurbelo tried on GitHub (Partly worked)

      Tested on v2.1.100. .agents/skills/ still returns "Unknown skill." Per-skill symlinks from .claude/skills/ to .agents/skills/ work.

      What @ronny1020 tried on GitHub (Worked)

      Ran ln -s ../.claude/skills .agents/skills to link the whole skills folder instead of each skill separately, and reports it works and stays consistent for new skills.

      What @cruvie tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

      On macOS, ran ln -s ~/.agents/skills ~/.claude/skills to point Claude Code's skills folder at the shared one.
