    Claude Code terminal flickers in long sessions on Windows Terminal with WSL2, how to fix

    Claude Code's terminal output flickers once a session gets long, on Windows 11 with WSL2 Ubuntu in Windows Terminal. One commenter reports that restarting Claude does not help, while opening a new terminal or clearing the terminal first does. Is there a workaround?

      The issue was closed as a duplicate, so the thread contains no official fix. One commenter suggested a Windows Terminal setting, but no one in the thread confirmed that it resolved the flickering.

      Suggested steps from the thread:

      1. In Windows Terminal, press Ctrl + , to open settings.
      2. Click "Open JSON file" at the bottom left.
      3. In the "profiles" section, add the setting under "defaults":
      json
      "profiles": {
        "defaults": {
          "compatibility.enableUnfocusedAcrylic": false
        }
      }

      1. Save the file, close all Terminal windows completely, and reopen Windows Terminal.

      Another commenter said that running !clear periodically clears the bash history and would stop the flickering, without clearing Claude's context the way /clear does. This was not confirmed by anyone else in the thread.

      Other reporters saw the problem on iTerm2 on Mac, Ubuntu 24.04 terminal, and Warp on Mac. One suspected it appears when output overflows the viewport, especially with parallel agents on a 1080p screen. This is a guess, not a confirmed cause.

      What @antonijo01 tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

      Set "compatibility.enableUnfocusedAcrylic": false under profiles.defaults in Windows Terminal settings.json, then fully closed and reopened Windows Terminal. The commenter said the flickering should now be gone for WSL and other profiles.

      What @KokXinTan tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

      Ran !clear periodically in Claude Code to clear the bash history. The commenter said this would stop the flickering without clearing context.

      What @nullbio tried on GitHub (Worked)

      Reporter said restarting Claude did not fix it, but opening a new terminal or clearing the terminal first and reopening did. They also listed HISTCONTROL and HISTSIZE settings.
