Cline MCP SSE server: 'unable to parse parameters' error - how to fix?

I'm using Cline v3.6.10 on macOS and trying to configure an MCP server that uses the SSE protocol. The JSON config produces an 'unable to parse parameters' error, but the same server works in Cursor. Does Cline support SSE MCP servers, and how should I configure them?

Fixed: SSE support is now in the Cline extension and a maintainer confirmed on 2025-04-07 that users should update to the latest version. Cline v3.6.10 did not support SSE-based MCP servers, so configuring one through JSON failed with 'unable to parse parameters' even though the same server worked in Cursor. To fix it, update Cline to the latest version; per the maintainer, you can then add the SSE server directly in the extension without needing to edit files. The thread does not show an updated JSON format for SSE servers, so the extension UI is the supported path. Another user reported the same error while confirming their server worked in Cursor and with MCP debugging tools, which suggests the failure was missing Cline support rather than a server-side problem.

What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

On macOS with Cline v3.6.10, configured an SSE-based MCP server via JSON and got 'unable to parse parameters'; the same configuration worked in Cursor.

What @ahmed-khalifa-at-telus tried on GitHub (Didn't work)

Another user hit the same JSON configuration failure, while confirming their SSE server worked in Cursor and with MCP debugging tools.

What @dcbartlett tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

A maintainer announced SSE support is now in the extension, telling users to update to the latest version and add SSE servers directly in the extension without editing files.
