    How do I turn off the humorous loading verbs like Tinkering or Contemplating in Claude Code?

    Claude Code shows playful loading verbs such as "Tinkering", "Contemplating" and "Mastering" while it works, and some users find them distracting. They want a setting to turn them off or replace them with one fixed word. One user on the native macOS install found no config file option.

      Status: the issue is closed as completed, but the thread shows no built-in option to disable or fix the verbs, and no maintainer reply explains a fix. A commenter on 2025-12-07 said there was still no option in Claude Code v2.0.60.

      Workarounds reported in the thread (all unofficial):

      1. tweakcc (npm tool): one commenter configured it to show "Generating..." at all times. It needs a local npm install and does not work with the native install. Another commenter said it did not work for them.

      2. Editing the npm CLI bundle: one commenter suggested backing up @anthropic-ai/claude-code/cli.js in the global node_modules folder, then reducing the verb list to one entry, for example xP5={words:["Working"]}. The file is large, so use an editor with search. The commenter did not report whether it worked.

      3. VS Code extension: one user on Windows replaced the list of strings in webview/index.js inside the .vscode/extensions/anthropic.claude-code-* folder. They said it seemed to work, but the change is lost on each extension update.

      These edits change installed program files. Keep backups and reapply them after updates.

      What @jakubbortlik tried on GitHub (Worked)

      Used tweakcc, an external npm tool, to set the thinking verbs to show "Generating..." all the time. This needs a local npm install and does not work with the native install.

      What @gostay tried on GitHub (Worked)

      On Windows with the VS Code extension, edited the webview/index.js file in the extension folder to replace the verb list with a simple list of strings. The commenter said it seemed to work, but the change is lost on extension updates.

      What a GitHub user tried on GitHub (Outcome unclear)

      Asked for an option to disable the humorous loading verbs or replace them with a fixed verb or animation. The issue body did not describe a workaround.
