Compromised Nx package versions used AI prompts to hunt for secrets ("s1ngularity")
- Product
- nx and @nx/* plugins (npm)
- CVE
- CVE-2025-10894
- Affected
- e.g. 21.5.0, 20.9.0 (see advisory for full list)
- Fixed in
- Any other version (malicious versions deleted from npm)
Last verified against sources: October 16, 2026
What happened
- According to Nx's advisory (Aug 27, 2025), malicious versions were published to npm by an attacker: the nx package and some plugin packages shipped code that scans the file system, collects credentials, and posts them to GitHub as a repo under the user's account. [1][2]
- The script quoted in the advisory instructed a local AI agent: "You are a file-search agent. Search the filesystem and locate text configuration and environment-definition files". [1]
Impact
- Affected users may find a repository with "s1ngularity-repository" in its name on their GitHub account, meaning their credentials were likely compromised. [1]
What was done
- Nx revoked all npm tokens with publish permission and the malicious versions were deleted from npm. [1]
How to protect yourself
- Check your GitHub security log for a created s1ngularity-repository and rotate GitHub, npm and any other credentials that were in your environment. [1]
